Tree and Leaf

Author: Teresa Bassett

My grandfather used to call me “the only soldier in step”, a reference to my (no doubt annoying) habit of ignoring all common sense and doing things my way. This surely explains my addiction to writing, a career choice involving regular disappointment and frustration, but with the magical bonus of being allowed to spend a lot of time in fantasy worlds. In the so-called real world, I’ve worked variously as tour guide (for the Eden Project), translator and foreign languages teacher. Meanwhile my stories have been published by Dagda Publishing, Alfie Dog, Freeze Frame Fiction and Seven Deadly Sins: A YA Anthology. My time travel adventure “The Time Crystals” was published by Books To Treasure on 21st February 2020.

Foods which help lower blood pressure

My brother was recently diagnosed with high blood pressure, so I thought it would be a good time to look at foods which can help lower blood pressure in a completely natural way. If you take medication, or have been advised to, I certainly wouldn’t recommend going against your doctor’s advice. However, there are lots… Read More Foods which help lower blood pressure

Make Your Own, part one: Six of the best plants for easy Herbal Remedies

I’ve loved plants and gardens all my life, but since I devote as much time as I can to my writing, I don’t generally have time to mollycoddle them. To a large extent, they need to be able to fend for themselves! Also I don’t use pesticides, since I want my garden to be a… Read More Make Your Own, part one: Six of the best plants for easy Herbal Remedies

“The Time Crystals” has a New Publisher

As some of you might know, the journey of my novel The Time Crystals towards publication has been something of a novel in itself—a story of twists and reversals, defeats and triumphs, despair and elation. I’d been writing on and off my whole life, often combined with other things. In 2011, conscious that my obsession… Read More “The Time Crystals” has a New Publisher

Family Recipe: Cornish Cheese and Onion Pasty

Although I come from a traditional Cornish family, I gave up meat at the age of eight. This was unusual at the time (I didn’t even know there was a word for it!) and there was far less choice in the shops than there is now. No veggie burgers, no quorn products … All I… Read More Family Recipe: Cornish Cheese and Onion Pasty

It’s official: Trees are good for us!

Growing up, my favourite times were spent tearing about in woods and climbing trees, so I’ve always had a deep love and respect for our leafy friends. In fact, if you cut me in half, you’d probably find tree sap flowing through my veins instead of blood! Lately, I’ve been pleased to note that an… Read More It’s official: Trees are good for us!

The Time Crystals: Greyhound Excerpt

Animal characters add depth and interest to a story, and I love including them in my writing. In my time travel adventure “The Time Crystals”, which I hope to publish this year, Jess the greyhound is an important character in her own right. She is Clara’s best friend, and an integral part of the family.… Read More The Time Crystals: Greyhound Excerpt

My rescued greyhound, Jinty

Seven years ago, a very special dog came into my life: a two and a half year old rescued greyhound. The numbers tattooed in her ears told us she hailed from Ireland, and, together with the scarring on her leg, hinted at the hardship she had endured. Greyhounds are like aliens My husband Mark and… Read More My rescued greyhound, Jinty
